THE GATEWAY PROJECT
Currently donations to the Food Bank can be made on Tuesday mornings between 9.30am and 12pm. Please go to the Salvation Army car park, by the kitchen door. You can also take donations on a Thursday morning or leave something in the Coop collection point.
Tins and packets are always gratefully received and current specific needs are for rice pudding/custard, tinned vegetables and tinned pies.
The project is a joint initiative by churches of all denominations in Wickford and Runwell to reach out to our neighbours in need.
The Gateway is open every Thursday between 10 and 11:30 am, at the Salvation Army building in Jersey Gardens. It is primarily a food bank, offering dried and tinned goods, and also toiletries, for those who are struggling, for whatever reason, to meet the financial demands of daily life. As well as food parcels, the volunteers who staff it will offer a friendly welcome, a listening ear, and, of course, a cup of tea.
The food bank is stocked by contributions from the churches, from local schools and other organisations. Please think about adding an item or two to your weekly shopping; each of our three churches has a collection box for your contributions. There is also a collection point in the Co-operative supermarket in Wickford.
And please help to make this resource known, through schools, clubs, workplaces and other organisations, so that we can do all in our power to make sure that no-one in our community goes hungry.
'I was hungry, and you gave me food.'
Under the gateway umbrella, volunteers from churches in the town run a "make lunch" project, supporting families by providing hot meals during the school holidays.
Volunteers from the parish have also be trained to offer the CAP money course to help those struggling to manage a tight budget.
