 Get to know the Team:

Revd Jonathan Evens was previously Associate Vicar for HeartEdge at St Martin-in-the-Fields, where he developed HeartEdge as an international and ecumenical network of churches engaging congregations with culture, compassion and commerce. In this time, he also developed a range of arts initiatives at St Martin’s and St Stephen Walbrook, a church in the City of London where he was Priest-in-charge for three years, as well as supporting St Martin’s in its ongoing partnerships around disability and church. Jonathan has been ordained for nineteen years and in that time has had involvement in setting up: the Barking and Dagenham Faith Forum; commission4mission, an artist’s collective; and Seven Kings Sophia Hub, a support service for business and community start-ups. He is co-author of ‘The Secret Chord,’ an impassioned study of the role of music in cultural life written through the prism of Christian belief, and writes regularly on the visual arts for national arts and church media including Artlyst, ArtWay and Church Times. He also blogs regularly at https://joninbetween.blogspot.com/. Before being ordained, Jonathan worked in the Civil Service forming partnerships to support disabled people in finding or retaining work. Jonathan is married to Christine. They have two daughters and two grandsons. Click here to read Jonathan's sermons.

Revd Sue Wise - I am married to Simon and have two grown up sons and two cats. I had careers in IT and in teaching before leaving work to pursue my ministry. I spent many years in Girl Guiding as leader and trainer. I was trained by Acorn Christian Healing Foundation as a Christian Listener and was also a tutor. When licensed as a Reader in 2010 I had already felt the call to ordained ministry. I joined the team in Wickford and Runwell when ordained deacon in 2015, became Associate Priest in 2018 and then Team Vicar in November 2020, during COVID. My working days are Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday, but with lots of flexibility. I lead the Open the Book team which uses drama to deliver Bible Stories in our Primary schools. I have a keen interest in the environment and have helped our churches reach Bronze and Silver Eco Church awards. Along with Emma, I lead our Kintsugi Hope Wellbeing Groups and I am also starting out in the ministry of Spiritual Companionship. I enjoy a bit of music and singing, reading and craft work, including building dolls houses. I recently wrote two humorous poems which were printed and sold to raise funds for our environmental projects - ‘The Vicarage Cat’ and ‘The Other Vicarage Cat’, and occasionally I write a blog, just for fun.

Emma Doe - I am married to Paul and have two wonderful daughters who are becoming lovely young ladies. My background is working in early years and for the last 13 years I have worked at the local Church of England school as their Spiritual Advisor and being their link with the church along side the clergy that visit the school. I was licensed as a Lay minister in 2020, after many years of leading family worship and messy church, I felt I was being called to something more and the role of an LLM seemed to be it. I have a passion for Christian mindfulness, nurturing others in their faith and children’s ministry. Being an LLM means I still get to talk about God’s love for the world and to be a connection for people between faith and daily life.

Mike Tricker – I am married to Paula, our daughter Lauren is just finishing university. I work in IT. I gave my life to Jesus in 2014. I was licenced as an LLM in October 2020. I was recently called an evangelist disguised as an LLM, and there is some truth in that, albeit I think preaching is the same thing. That is meeting people where they are and trying to bring him alive in our lives. I sat down in costa, prayer tents, street kitchens, and wherever I can find to talk about the good news from early days. I hope to start rail pastor training to continue that theme of bringing him to the fringes. A West Ham season ticket holder: I love listening to Glen Campbell and playing the guitar. I love my new role and all the new opportunities that it gives to talk about our lord to everyone and bring his love to a world that so desperately needs it. Mike's sermons can be found here.
